The seventh-ranked UCLA Bruins hold a 17-0 lead over the Nevada Wolf Pack at halftime during their matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. Playing on Halloween, the undefeated Bruins entered the contest with a 7-0 record under first-year head coach Bob Chesney, looking to maintain their momentum before returning to Big Ten Conference action.

Nevada started former UCLA quarterback Luke Duncan under center, but his return to the Rose Bowl quickly turned into a nightmare. On the very first play of the game, UCLA defensive back Scooter Jackson intercepted a quick pass. Duncan threw three interceptions across his first three drives, prompting the Nevada coaching staff to bench him in favor of AJ Bianco.

The UCLA defense capitalized heavily on the early turnovers orchestrated by coordinator Colin Hitschler's unit. Derrick Barksdale intercepted an inaccurate pass from Duncan and returned it 26 yards for the game's opening touchdown, executing a strong stiff-arm before scampering into the end zone. Shortly after, Jalen Woods hauled in another tipped pass for UCLA's second pick of the contest.

Despite the stellar performance by the defense, the UCLA offense struggled to find its rhythm early against the Wolf Pack. Following the game's opening turnover, the Bruins settled for a 26-yard field goal by Mateen Bhaghani to take a 3-0 lead. The offense stalled repeatedly in the first quarter, generating just 25 yards and enduring multiple three-and-outs before finally breaking through late in the second half.

With backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach leading the offense in place of the injured Nico Iamaleava—who will miss the remainder of the 2026 season—UCLA finally found traction near the end of the second quarter. Dieffenbach connected with Semaj Morgan on a 25-yard completion to reach the 3-yard line, and then rushed for a 3-yard touchdown himself to extend the lead. Dieffenbach later hit Brian Rowe Jr. for a 38-yard catch, setting up a 51-yard field goal attempt by Bhaghani that ultimately missed wide.

UCLA heads into the locker room ahead 17-0, staying on pace to improve to 8-0 on the season. Despite the shutout advantage, head coach Bob Chesney expressed minor frustration during a brief halftime interview, noting that "there is one mistake happening in a lot of these offensive drives by one guy."

The game is being broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network, with A.J. Kanell and Brett Hundley calling the action from the booth and Emma Carpenter reporting from the sidelines. Weather forecasts in Southern California for the afternoon matchup showed temperatures near 69 degrees with a chance of rain.
