Recent recollections and industry updates have brought fresh attention to acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, shedding light on memorable moments from the sets of his past cinematic works and ongoing television and streaming productions. Stories shared by actors and colleagues offer a closer look at the director's exacting standards and the vibrant creative environments he fosters on set.

Reflecting on the 1999 hit film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, actress Smita Jayakar recalled a moment when Bhansali scolded actor Salman Khan for a spontaneous, unscripted gesture during the song "Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan." Jayakar, who portrayed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's on-screen mother, explained that Salman touched Aishwarya's arm while walking past her, diverging from the blocking required by the script. Bhansali immediately questioned the action, asking why he had touched her when he was only supposed to stand and look.

Jayakar noted that the unscripted moment stemmed from the real-life romance blossoming between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai during the production. She described the couple as looking angelic and noted that their genuine affection successfully translated to the screen, creating a lasting cinematic magic despite occasional delays caused by the pair arriving together on set.

In another recent revelation, actor Anil Kapoor shared how his daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor, built her early career and financial independence following a major break with Bhansali. Speaking on a television program, Kapoor recounted that after returning from Singapore, Sonam began her journey in the film industry by working as an assistant director for Bhansali on the film Black. She subsequently made her acting debut under his direction in the 2007 romantic drama Saawariya.

Anil Kapoor explained that Sonam saved her earnings incrementally from her early days in the industry to purchase her own flat independently. Her career path illustrates the rigorous behind-the-scenes beginnings that often precede prominent acting roles in Bollywood.

Meanwhile, behind-the-camera changes have affected the production of Netflix's series The Royals, which features connections to Bhansali's extended filmmaking circle. Mitakshara Kumar, who previously worked as an assistant director on Bhansali's projects including Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, and Gangubai Kathiawadi, and directed episodes of the Netflix series Heeramandi, was initially brought on to direct the second season of The Royals following the departure of Jasmeet K Reen.

However, Kumar's tenure on the second season was also short-lived due to creative differences with the production team. A source close to the production confirmed that her vision was incompatible with the team's goals, leading to an amicable separation. US-based director Tanuj Chopra, known for his work on Delhi Crime, has since taken over the project as filming resumes in Mumbai.
