National 1 Clubs Clash With French Football Federation Over Integration Costs
Teams in Group C are demanding financial compensation and fair dialogue following the late inclusion of Union Foot de Touraine.
Clubs in Group C of the National 1 division are pressing the French Football Federation (FFF) for financial compensation following the late integration of Union Foot de Touraine into their championship just before the season began.
Presidents from Group C originally sent a letter to the FFF on August 31, pointing out that two additional matches generate unforeseen expenses that were not accounted for in their 2026-2027 budgets. The clubs proposed opening a dialogue to establish a fair compensation framework tailored to each team's constraints.
Among their requests, the clubs asked for an increase in mileage allowances from four euros to seven euros, a proportional change in club licensing fees, and a revision of relegation rules. However, the FFF delayed its response until October 2, when General Director Jean-François Villotte stated that the entry of Union Foot de Touraine did not warrant supplementary exceptional aid.
Dissatisfied with this response, team leadership sent another letter on October 19 expressing frustration over the lack of prompt reactivity, especially with financial deadlines approaching. They requested an in-person working meeting either at the FFF headquarters or within their pool's territory.
On October 20, National Competitions Director Christophe Drouvroy replied that Group C already benefits from 1.13 million euros in federal aid through club licenses and travel expenses, arguing that no additional aid was justified. In response, the clubs clarified that they are not asking for special treatment, but rather fairness and financial protection regarding a federal decision made during their pre-season preparation.
The ongoing dispute also brings broader structural complaints to light, notably regarding mileage indemnities that have remained unchanged since 2013. While single-group championships receive seven euros per kilometer for one-way travel, multi-group leagues receive only four euros.
Meanwhile, Union Foot de Touraine continues its strong performance on the pitch despite mounting squad suspensions. Currently sitting fourth in the standings with a six-match unbeaten streak, the team recently prepared to face Andrézieux-Bouthéon relying on core players such as left-back Ilyas Boudinar to navigate through multiple absences.
