MultiChoice has officially launched SuperSport Swahili, a dedicated 24-hour sports channel broadcasting in Kiswahili for audiences in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The new service debuted on November 5, coinciding with the rollout of restructured DStv and GOtv packages across the three East African markets.

The channel provides a full-time Kiswahili-language service rather than relying solely on translated commentary feeds or secondary audio options. Available on DStv channel 216 for Sports and Ultimate package subscribers and on GOtv channel 570 for Sports package viewers, the offering features a lineup that includes selected matches from the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, LaLiga, Serie A, and Ligue 1.

In addition to live football, SuperSport Swahili carries international competitions, FA Cup and Carabao Cup ties, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Diamond League athletics, marathons, and delayed broadcasts of WWE and UFC events voiced in Kiswahili. Presenter Ahmed Abdallah emphasized the cultural relevance of the launch, stating, "Kiswahili is the language of the football conversation in East Africa. Now we have a channel that gives that passion a home of its own, with live matches, studio shows and voices that fans know."

Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Senior Vice President of Sport Content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, tied the rollout to the company's broader localization strategy. "Localisation is a key part of our content strategy, bringing the sport that matters most to people in Africa, in a language that resonates with them," Ramovha remarked, also highlighting the channel's strategic timing ahead of the co-hosted 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The launch arrives as MultiChoice adjusts its subscription packages and digital services following its acquisition by French media company Canal+. The takeover, valued at approximately $2 billion, became unconditional in September 2025 after securing regulatory approvals, giving Canal+ effective control of the parent company serving more than 40 million subscribers across nearly 70 countries.

Amid these corporate and structural shifts, MultiChoice has also discontinued its GOtv Stream mobile application. Visitors to the platform's website are directed to watch active package channels directly through physical decoders, and the application has been removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The decision follows earlier platform changes, including the closure of the Showmax streaming service in April.

The newly restructured subscription options aim to simplify the company's offerings and provide subscribers with more flexible choices across its television platforms. As MultiChoice continues its regional adjustments, the long-term success of SuperSport Swahili will depend on audience uptake and sustainable commercial engagement across the East African markets.
