Manchester United Suffers Blow as Carlos Baleba Injures Hamstring

Midfielder Carlos Baleba faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a hamstring injury sustained in a 3-2 victory over Roma.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed serious concern over midfielder Carlos Baleba after the player suffered a suspected hamstring injury during Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Roma at Old Trafford.

Baleba pulled up grabbing his hamstring shortly after the second-half kickoff and left the pitch in tears, receiving a consoling embrace from Carrick on the touchline.

The injury is a significant setback for the £70 million summer acquisition, who was making only his fifth start for the club following an earlier ankle issue sustained during pre-season with Brighton that delayed his debut.

Carrick declined to provide an immediate recovery timeline but acknowledged the severity of the situation following the match.

"I haven't got any more news on Carlos at this stage," said Carrick. "It's his hamstring, so we'll just have to assess what that looks like. Initially, it doesn't look great. Timelines, I haven't got much more to give you."

The 22-year-old midfielder is almost certainly ruled out of Sunday's upcoming Premier League home fixture against Aston Villa.

Additionally, Baleba is expected to remain at the Carrington training facility during the upcoming international break to undergo further evaluation by club medical personnel.

As a result of the injury, the Cameroonian international is set to miss his national team's Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches against Namibia.
