Manchester United Manager Michael Carrick Urges Respect Amid Poor Form
Under mounting pressure after a heavy Champions League defeat, Michael Carrick insists he can turn Manchester United around.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has defended his team and called for renewed respect toward the club during a difficult period of the season. Following a 4-1 defeat against Como in the UEFA Champions League, which marked the club's fifth loss in 11 matches across all competitions, Carrick faced intense scrutiny regarding his future at Old Trafford.
Speaking to reporters ahead of an upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth, the 45-year-old manager did not shy away from addressing the poor performances. Carrick stated that the recent results were unacceptable and acknowledged the heavy burden placed on the supporters who have witnessed a decline in the club's traditional standards.
"I would just like to say a few words, because I think it is important… Lately, it has not gone very well for us. I accept the situation we are currently going through," Carrick said. He emphasized that the responsibility lies with him to field a team capable of competing at the highest level and honoring the values of the institution.
Despite speculation linking managers such as Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann, and Eddie Howe to his position, Carrick expressed absolute confidence in his ability to reverse the team's fortunes. He stressed that Manchester United remains greater than any individual and that the squad must channel the resilience of club legends like Sir Alex Ferguson, Wayne Rooney, and Ryan Giggs.
"I am 100% sure I can turn this around," Carrick stated. He added that the pain of the current losses fuels his determination rather than stopping him. "If you do not share my mindset, you do not belong here," he warned, noting that a tough match against Bournemouth awaits the struggling squad.
The mounting pressure on Carrick follows critical comments from players like Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martínez after recent losses, highlighting growing frustration within the locker room. With the team sitting lower than expected and supporters demanding immediate improvements, Sunday's match against Bournemouth could prove decisive for Carrick's tenure as manager.
