The San Jose Sharks erased a multi-goal deficit to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in an overtime thriller on Tuesday night. Macklin Celebrini delivered the decisive blow, scoring his second goal of the game on a power play at 2:13 of the extra frame. The victory helped the Sharks improve to 5-4-1 on the season following a tough loss the previous night.

Montreal controlled significant stretches of the match and built a promising lead behind strong performances from their top forward line. Nick Suzuki opened the scoring in the first period by wiring a shot past the goaltender. Juraj Slafkovsky followed up in the second frame with an impressive individual effort, beating a defender and sliding the puck past San Jose netminder Alex Nedeljkovic. Cole Caufield added another goal shortly after, giving the Canadiens a comfortable two-goal cushion.

Despite dominating portions of the game and generating heavy offensive pressure, the Canadiens fell victim to familiar struggles regarding blown leads. Montreal has now surrendered a multi-goal advantage four times this early in the season. Head coach Martin St-Louis expressed frustration over the team's inability to close out games, noting that self-inflicted mistakes and undisciplined penalties ultimately invited San Jose back into the contest.

The comeback began in the second period when a turnover in the offensive zone led to an odd-man rush, allowing Celebrini to capitalize on a breakaway against goaltender Jakub Dobes. San Jose continued to apply pressure as regulation wound down. Tyler Toffoli tied the game 3-3 with 8:51 remaining in the third period, converting on a power play after Montreal took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

The turning point in overtime came when Dobes was whistled for an interference penalty while the Canadiens possessed the puck in their defensive zone. Capitalizing on the man advantage, Celebrini fired a sharp one-timer into the top-left corner past Dobes, sealing the comeback victory for the visiting side. Nedeljkovic finished the night with 31 saves for the Sharks, while Dobes stopped 26 shots for Montreal.

Following the hard-fought contest, both squads look ahead to upcoming matchups on their respective schedules. The Sharks will travel to face the Ottawa Canadiens on Thursday night, while the Montreal Canadiens prepare to visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night as they seek to address their late-game defensive lapses.
