Lorenzo Musetti advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon by defeating French rising star Moïse Kouamé in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, on the hard courts of the Court Central Auvergne Rhône Alpes. The match lasted nearly two hours, during which the Italian relied on his experience and tactical consistency to overcome the aggressive play of his young opponent.

The victory serves as an important confidence booster for Musetti, who entered the Lyon tournament looking to regain his rhythm. His recent schedule included a first-round exit at the Shanghai Masters against Yi Zhou and a missed appearance in Tokyo due to a right-hand finger injury. Prior to facing Kouamé, Musetti secured a positive opening win in an all-Italian matchup against Matteo Arnaldi.

Facing Kouamé presented a unique challenge, as the two players had no prior head-to-head history. The seventeen-year-old French wildcard entered the tournament ranked number 194 in the ATP rankings and previously eliminated Italian veteran Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round with a score of 7-6, 6-4.

The opening set featured a competitive battle as Kouamé used his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game to challenge the Italian. The young Frenchman initially pushed forward, but Musetti kept his composure, capitalized on unforced errors, and secured a crucial break to take the first set 6-4.

In the second set, Musetti maintained control of the tempo. After trading early holds, the Italian earned a vital break in the fifth game to take the lead. Despite facing medical timeouts and resilient service games from his opponent, Musetti successfully closed out the match without dropping a set.

With this straight-set victory, Musetti moves one step closer to claiming the Lyon title. He will face the winner of the match between Vacherot and van Assche in the upcoming quarterfinal round as he seeks to build further momentum on the circuit.
