Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell was carted off the field on a backboard and transported to a local hospital early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings. The injury occurred while Campbell was making a routine tackle on tight end T.J. Hockenson following a 10-yard gain.

Medical personnel rushed to the field immediately after the play. Campbell remained face down on the turf and did not move, causing a lengthy stoppage in the game. Players and coaching staff from both the Lions and the Vikings took a knee on the field as trainers tended to the defensive star.

The scene left several players visibly emotional, with edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and other members of the Detroit defense showing clear distress on the sideline. Fans and teammates applauded as Campbell was strapped to a backboard, fitted with a neck brace, and carefully lifted onto a cart.

The Detroit franchise later confirmed that Campbell was taken to a local hospital specifically to be evaluated for a neck injury. At the time of the incident, the Lions held a narrow 12-7 lead over the Vikings in a tightly contested matchup.

Losing Campbell for any extended period would be a massive blow to the Detroit defense. The 26-year-old linebacker entered Sunday's game leading the team in total tackles with 54, adding three more tackles to his tally against Minnesota before exiting.

Campbell is coming off a breakout season that earned him First-team All-Pro honors, during which he recorded a career-high 176 tackles, five sacks, and three forced fumbles. His standout performance prompted the Lions to reward him with a four-year, $81 million contract extension during the offseason.

Selected 18th overall in the 2023 NFL draft out of Iowa, Campbell has quickly developed into the undisputed leader of Detroit's defense. Earlier this year, defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard praised his impact by stating, "This is Jack Campbell's defense, and I don't hesitate when I say that. This is Jack Campbell's defense and everyone in that locker room knows it. Point blank period. It all goes through Jack."
