The legal proceedings concerning alleged mistreatment and humiliation suffered by Roberta Bertacchi officially commenced before Judge Monocratic Valeria Fedele at the courthouse in Lecce. The case focuses on accusations against her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Davide Falcone from Casarano, who is accused of aggravated abuse directed at the twenty-six-year-old from Ruffano.

Roberta Bertacchi was discovered lifeless on January 6, 2024, hanging with a scarf on the balcony of her residence in Casarano. While the initial investigation into her death initially faced hurdles, the current trial specifically addresses charges of recurring physical and psychological abuse spanning from October 2023 until her passing.

During the morning session, the prosecution led by Public Prosecutor Rosaria Petrolo and the legal representatives for the victim's family, attorneys Luciano De Francesco and Silvia Romano, submitted their witness lists. The defendant, who was absent from the courtroom due to being under house arrest for separate matters, is represented by attorneys Giorgio Caroli and Silvio Caroli. The next hearing has been scheduled for March 3, 2027.

Investigators have gathered testimonies regarding intense jealousy, verbal offenses, and physical altercations leading up to the tragic event. According to the prosecution's reconstruction, the conflicts involved severe verbal degradation and attempts by the defendant to control her movements during social gatherings. The defense and prosecution will continue to debate these circumstances in upcoming sessions.

Concurrently, a separate legal avenue is examining potential instigation to suicide in relation to Bertacchi's death. The preliminary investigations judge, Francesco Valente, previously rejected a request by the prosecutor's office to close the file and ordered further investigative steps following objections raised by the victim's grieving family.

As part of the ongoing parallel inquiry, forensic specialists from the Carabinieri's RIS unit conducted inspections at the apartment in Casarano. Authorities also performed the exhumation of Bertacchi's body at the cemetery in Ruffano to recover the boots she wore on the day she died, allowing experts to compare the footwear soles with impressions found inside the residence and on the architectural overhang beneath the balcony.

The ongoing court sessions will seek to determine the truth behind the alleged abusive conduct during the relationship, while separate forensic efforts continue to provide clarity regarding the exact sequence of events on the day of her death.
