Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal reached a significant milestone in European football on Tuesday, becoming the highest-scoring teenager in the history of the UEFA Champions League. The 19-year-old opened the scoring in the seventh minute of Barcelona's match against Aston Villa at the Spotify Camp Nou, capitalizing on a defensive error by the visitors to curl a precise shot into the bottom corner.

The goal marked Yamal's 14th in the Champions League, allowing him to surpass the previous record held by Kylian Mbappé. The match, which concluded in a 3-0 victory for the home side, also featured two second-half goals from Raphinha. Despite the dominant performance, the evening was partially overshadowed by an injury to midfielder Rodri, who was substituted at halftime after reporting muscular pain in his calf. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stated that the team would evaluate the severity of the injury on Wednesday.

The victory maintained Barcelona's momentum in the competition, while Aston Villa suffered their first defeat of the campaign after winning their opening three matches. Villa coach Unai Emery acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture, noting that his team must learn how to compete more effectively against tournament favorites. The match was attended by Prince William, a prominent supporter of the English club.

Yamal’s recent success on the pitch comes amid heightened public scrutiny regarding his standing in international awards. Last week, the teenager finished third in the Ballon d'Or voting, trailing winner Harry Kane and runner-up Kylian Mbappé. The results prompted a heated reaction from Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, who publicly criticized the Spanish judge for the award, José Félix Díaz, for failing to vote for a compatriot.

In an interview with media personality Jota Jordi, Nasraoui accused Félix Díaz of favoring Mbappé, suggesting that the voting process in Spain is influenced by club loyalties. Nasraoui questioned the impartiality of the panel, stating, "I’d like you to put one of those people who voted for Mbappé on screen someday; I’d love to talk to him. You’re a ‘Mbappé-fanboy’ too, mate." He further argued that players should be judged on individual merit rather than club affiliation.

Félix Díaz, the director of the publication Diario AS, defended his voting record by citing the consistency of Mbappé’s performance throughout the entire campaign, including his output in the league, the Champions League, and the World Cup. He explained that while he holds Yamal in high regard, he felt that Mbappé performed at a higher level during the assessment period. Félix Díaz also noted that he believed Spain’s success in the World Cup was a collective effort rather than the result of a single player's dominance.

Despite the controversy surrounding the voting process, Yamal continues to be a central figure for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. As the season progresses, the young forward remains focused on his contributions to the club, with Barcelona currently preparing for a top-of-the-table La Liga clash against Atletico Madrid this coming Sunday.
