The city of Kulmbach is gearing up for a bustling weekend of shopping and community events alongside upcoming infrastructure updates. From Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25, 2026, the traditional autumn market will take place at the EKU-Platz. The event brings together a diverse array of goods, ranging from household items and textiles to spices, jewelry, and traditional culinary specialties. Lord Mayor Dr. Ralf Hartnack highlighted the enduring appeal of the gathering, stating that it is a wonderful tradition that brings people from Kulmbach and the surrounding area together through its mix of varied goods, culinary offerings, and familiar market attractions.

Complementing the autumn fair, the traditional weekly market will be held on the marketplace on Saturday, October 24, offering autumn and winter plants, fresh produce, fish, and baked goods. Additionally, more than 60 businesses across the inner city will open their doors for a special shopping Sunday on October 25, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Sunday opening was initiated by the local merchant association "Unser Kulmbach" and approved by the city council to allow visitors to easily combine the market experience with a downtown stroll.

In preparation for the market weekend, city officials have announced strict parking restrictions. A total parking ban will take effect across the entire EKU-Platz starting Thursday, October 22, with vehicles remaining after the closure subject to towing. Authorities have designated alternative parking areas, including underground garages and nearby parking structures, while specific street sections around the market grounds will close during peak event hours.

Motorists in the region will also face significant traffic hurdles starting the following week. The Bavarian State Construction Directorate's Central Traffic Management office has scheduled extensive road construction along the B289 near Kulmbach, Aichig, Kauerndorf, and Untersteinach. Beginning Monday, November 2, at 6:00 AM and running through November 26 at 6:00 PM, a series of construction zones stretching up to 1.4 kilometers will cause increased traffic volume and temporary congestion. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution and heed temporary traffic signs.

In local economic developments, the financial status of PG Alte Spinnerei Kulmbach GmbH has drawn attention following the publication of its 2024 annual financial statements. The Starnberg-registered company reported a negative equity shortfall of 77,146.11 euros and total liabilities of approximately 1.56 million euros. While the company's annual loss dropped significantly to 3,723.69 euros compared to the previous year, the financial report showed no circulating assets or cash reserves, with its total reported assets consisting entirely of fixed assets valued at roughly 1.49 million euros.

Meanwhile, the Office for Food, Agriculture, and Forestry (AELF) Coburg-Kulmbach is turning its focus toward community health by hosting free educational events throughout November under the "Generation 55plus" network. Ergotherapist Kathrin Wenning will lead a movement and exercise session on Saturday, November 7, aimed at strengthening heart health, followed by a nutritional lecture on heart-healthy diets by dietary assistant Irina Pöhlmann on Monday, November 30. Both events will be hosted at the AELF facility on Trendelstraße.
