John Cena Announces Details for Inaugural John Cena Classic Tournament

The 17-time world champion revealed that the special event will take place on December 14 at Walt Disney World, featuring Cody Rhodes as its first participant.

During the November 2 episode of Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn, New York, 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena returned to the ring to officially unveil the long-awaited details for the John Cena Classic. Initially announced at WWE Backlash in May, the tournament is designed to showcase main roster stars squaring off against emerging talent from NXT.

Cena revealed that the tournament will take place on Monday, December 14, marking a historic scheduling milestone for the company. WWE will broadcast two separate episodes of Monday Night Raw on the same day. The first show will air earlier in the day from Perth, Australia, following the Wrestlepalooza event, while the second live episode will emanate from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, centered entirely around the John Cena Classic.

The second major announcement of the evening was the unveiling of the brand-new John Cena Classic Championship. The title belt features his likeness and borrows its visual structure from the signature spinner belt that Cena popularized during his active career as WWE Champion. Additionally, Cena confirmed that subscribers will have the opportunity to vote on aspects of the tournament through Club WWE.

For the final segment of his announcements, Cena brought out the first officially confirmed competitor for the tournament, inviting Cody Rhodes to the ring. Because Rhodes has been confirmed for the Orlando-based event, his participation essentially rules out his appearance on the first Raw broadcast taking place earlier that same day in Perth, Australia.

Cena's appearance also set the stage for further developments heading into the winter months. He announced that he will make several more television and live event appearances in the coming weeks to scout and reveal additional talent for the tournament, including a scheduled appearance at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in Houston, Texas, later this month, as well as an upcoming appearance on NXT.

The segment between Cena and Rhodes was ultimately interrupted by Randy Orton. Orton stepped out to warn Rhodes about the physical toll of their upcoming Last Man Standing match at WWE Crown Jewel, temporarily pausing the tournament festivities.

The unique partnership with Disney brings professional wrestling back to a major Orlando resort property for a broadcast event. As WWE prepares for a demanding double-show schedule in December, fans await further updates regarding which NXT stars will step up to face main roster veterans in the fan-influenced tournament.
