Italian Foreign Minister Targeted by Hackers Over Ukraine Support
Antonio Tajani reports that cybercriminals leaked his personal data on the dark web due to his country's political stance.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that he has been targeted by cybercriminals who published his personal details on the dark web. Tajani stated that the hostile action stems from Italy's diplomatic and military backing of Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
Writing on the social media platform X, Tajani detailed the intimidation tactics directed at both himself and his relatives. He explained that defending the freedom of a sovereign state and supporting a nation's democracy makes institutional figures a target for these criminal entities.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her full solidarity with Tajani and blamed the security breach on pro-Russian hackers. Meloni emphasized that the sale of confidential information concerning institutional representatives is deeply concerning and requires a resolute response from authorities.
In addition to addressing the cyberattack, Meloni raised concerns regarding the circulation of false images shared by members of Italy's political opposition, though she did not elaborate on the specific content. The Italian government continues to provide robust humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine despite ongoing threats.
In a separate development within the digital asset sector, onchain data revealed a major cryptocurrency transaction involving privacy-focused tokens. A digital wallet that utilized Tornado Cash converted approximately $3.73 million worth of Ethereum into Zcash on the Hyperliquid exchange.
The multi-hour transaction involved shifting 1,670 Ether into 2,959 Zcash coins. Because Zcash utilizes zero-knowledge proofs to facilitate shielded transactions, the conversion allows users to obscure transaction trails, differentiating it from public ledgers like Ethereum.
Despite the multi-million-dollar swap, analysts noted that the trade represents a small fraction of Zcash's total daily trading volume. While privacy-oriented transactions often spark discussion regarding coin utility and market demand, market observers caution that a single wallet's actions are unlikely to single-handedly drive the cryptocurrency's valuation.
Meanwhile, Zcash has demonstrated relative price resilience compared to broader declines in major digital assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Market participants continue to monitor on-chain metrics, exchange-traded fund flows, and technical resistance levels to gauge whether institutional and retail demand for privacy technology will sustain the asset's medium-term trajectory.
