Ballon d'Or 2026 Ceremony Begins in London
The 70th edition of the prestigious football awards marks the first time the gala is held outside of Paris.
The 70th edition of the Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the London Palladium in London, United Kingdom. Marking the first time in history that the prestigious event is organized outside of Paris, the gala is broadcast globally starting at 3 p.m. ET, with streaming available for free on DAZN and through the official Ballon d'Or website.
This year's awards recognize the top players, coaches, goalkeepers, and clubs from the 2025-2026 season. The selection process involves an international jury of specialized journalists, featuring one representative from each of the top 100 men's FIFA-ranked countries and the top 50 women's countries, ensuring public voting does not determine the outcome.
The men's category features a competitive list of 30 nominees, including prominent figures such as Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Lautaro Martínez. Among the contenders is Lamine Yamal, the 19-year-old Spanish forward for FC Barcelona, who aims to become the youngest player ever to win the trophy, potentially surpassing Ronaldo Nazario.
Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain is also among the notable candidates, with supporters highlighting his standout Champions League performance. However, reports from RMC Sport indicate that a severe knee injury might prevent him from attending the ceremony in London.
Mexican football achieved historic representation at the gala as forward Julián Quiñones finished in the 28th position of the men's classification. His inclusion breaks a 19-year absence of Mexican players in the definitive men's shortlist, following a stellar season with Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia and his participation in the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, Scarlett Camberos placed 21st in the women's category, while Club América Femenil received a nomination for the women's club of the year.
In the Argentine contingent, Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martínez compete for the main men's prize, while Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez vies for his third Yashin Trophy, which honors the best goalkeeper of the season. Meanwhile, other awards celebrate young talents, managerial achievements, and outstanding team performances across international football.
