India Women Complete 3-0 T20I Series Sweep Against Zimbabwe
Harmanpreet Kaur scored an unbeaten 91 to help India secure a dominant 92-run victory in Raipur.
The Indian women's national cricket team completed a comprehensive 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe with a commanding 92-run victory in the third and final T20 international match at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Opting to bat first to provide their middle order with valuable game time, the hosts posted a formidable total of 216/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Former captain Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a stellar performance, smashing an unbeaten 91 off just 41 deliveries. Kaur reached her half-century in 25 balls and finished her explosive knock with ten boundaries and five sixes, marking her first fifty of the year and her first in ten matches. Opening batter Shafali Verma also contributed significantly with a quickfire 69 off 37 balls, securing her second consecutive half-century and earning the Player of the Series award.
India's innings got off to a strong start with a new opening combination, as Shafali and Anushka Sharma put together 54 runs. After Anushka departed for 28, Shafali maintained the offensive momentum alongside the middle order. Zimbabwe bowler Beloved Biza claimed three wickets, though she proved expensive by conceding 50 runs across her four overs.
In response, Zimbabwe managed to avoid losing wickets in clusters, displaying an improvement from previous outings. Sharne Mayers anchored the innings with a well-compiled fifty, aided by Beloved Biza, who contributed 44 runs in an 82-run partnership. However, the touring side struggled to accelerate, and Nandani Sharma dismantled their lower order by finishing with figures of 3/18. Zimbabwe was ultimately restricted to 124/7.
The victory marked Smriti Mandhana's first series win as the full-time captain across all formats. Reflecting on the triumph, Mandhana praised the team's consistency and execution while highlighting the importance of giving the middle order crucial time at the crease. She stated that the squad aims to carry this ruthless brand of cricket into the upcoming three-match ODI series.
Following the conclusion of the T20I leg, the action shifts to Vadodara for the 50-over matches. The opening ODI is scheduled for Friday, October 23, where India will look to maintain their dominance against a Lady Chevrons squad seeking to adapt to local conditions.
