India and England to Face Off in Hong Kong Sixes Bowl Semi-Finals
Both India and Pakistan found themselves relegated to the lower tiers of the tournament following impressive group-stage performances by the United Arab Emirates.
India and England are set to square off in the Bowl semi-finals at the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 after both squads experienced difficult outings in the group stage. The tournament standings were upended by the United Arab Emirates, whose surprising victories over both India and Pakistan shifted the shape of the competition and prevented defending champions from retaining their title.
The United Arab Emirates emerged as the giant-killers of Group C. Their campaign opened with a thrilling chase against Pakistan, where Khalid Shah smashed 71 runs off 20 deliveries to successfully target a 107-run total on the final delivery of the match. Pakistan later recovered to defeat India in a commanding performance that featured Abbas Afridi hitting five sixes in a single over, helping knock off 89 runs in just 23 balls.
However, India's fortunes worsened during their encounter with the United Arab Emirates. After posting a modest total of 94 for six, India watched as Khalid Shah and Ansh Tandon easily chased down the target without losing a wicket, completing the victory in just 4.2 overs. These back-to-back defeats led by captain Krunal Pandya left India at the bottom of the group.
As a result of the group-stage dynamics, teams have been distributed into separate knockout tiers. While the United Arab Emirates advanced to the Cup semi-finals to face Australia, Pakistan dropped into the Plate competition to play Hong Kong. India fell into the Bowl semi-finals, where they will now face England, who finished third in Group A, to determine final placements between ninth and twelfth.
All the upcoming semi-final matchups are scheduled to take place at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok. The tournament continues to draw significant attention from cricket fans globally as the lower-bracket and championship rounds unfold over the weekend.
Away from the Hong Kong Sixes tournament, international football headlines also connected England and Poland, as Coventry City striker Simms secured Polish citizenship through his grandmother. Although Simms previously attended England youth training camps at the Under-18 and Under-20 levels, he never earned a senior cap for the Three Lions.
Poland national team manager Jan Urban confirmed active interest in the forward as the squad seeks fresh attacking options while veteran captain Robert Lewandowski approaches the latter stages of his career. Simms awaits the upcoming squad announcement to see if he will receive a call-up for upcoming Nations League fixtures.
