Hyundai has officially launched its new Bayon SUV in India, introducing an introductory starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) with customer deliveries currently underway. Slotting neatly between the existing Venue and Creta models in Hyundai's vehicle lineup, the Bayon aims to capture a distinct segment of the midsize SUV market.

Initial reports outline varying configurations for the newly released vehicle. While one source indicates availability across six variants spanning up to Rs 18 lakh, comprehensive pricing data from another source reveals a total of 19 configurations divided across seven distinct trim levels. Prices begin at Rs 9.99 lakh for the entry-level HX2 manual trim and reach up to Rs 18.14 lakh for the top-of-the-line HX10 iVT automatic variant equipped with a dual-tone finish. Dual-tone choices carry a Rs 15,000 premium over standard versions.

Under the hood, the Bayon utilizes a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox available across all trims and a continuously variable transmission, also known as an iVT automatic, offered starting from the HX5 trim upward. Automatic variants come equipped with a Dash Boost function for immediate overtaking power, paddle shifters, and Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes, achieving a tested fuel efficiency of 18.6 kpl under ARAI conditions.

Hyundai plans to expand the vehicle's powertrain lineup in January 2027 by introducing a compressed natural gas version, marking the company's first midsize SUV in India to receive a CNG option. Unlike its stablemates the Venue and Creta, the Bayon does not offer turbo-petrol or diesel engine configurations.

Measuring 4.2 meters in length, the exterior adopts Hyundai's Art of Steel design language. Notable exterior elements include LED projector headlamps, L-shaped daytime running lights that serve as turn indicators, prominent wheel arches with black cladding, 17-inch petal-design alloy wheels, and a rear roof spoiler.

Inside the cabin, higher trims feature dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Additional luxury and convenience amenities comprise ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a panoramic sunroof, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, rear air conditioning vents, and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. The vehicle also integrates a generative AI voice assistant powered by Perplexity, alongside voice technology from SoundHound AI and Bluelink connected-car features.

Safety equipment is comprehensive, with 35 standard features including six airbags, a rollover sensor, tire-pressure monitoring, hill-start assist control, electronic stability control, and four-wheel disc brakes. Upper variants add SmartSense Level 2 Pro advanced driver assistance systems with 23 features and a 360-degree camera system. Built on Hyundai's Global K enhanced platform, the SUV targets a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating expected by the end of 2026.
