Heather Tom Earns Historic Double Nomination at Daytime Emmys
The Bold and the Beautiful star could break records with potential wins for lead actress and writing.
Actress Heather Tom is set to make history at the 53rd annual Daytime Emmys in Los Angeles, entering the ceremony with a rare double nomination that could shatter records. Known for her role as Katie Logan on "The Bold and the Beautiful," Tom is nominated in the outstanding lead actress in a daytime drama category. A win in this field would secure her seventh Daytime Emmy, allowing her to surpass Erika Slezak and claim the record for the most acting wins by an actress in daytime television history.
In addition to her acting recognition, Tom received a second nomination as a member of the writing staff for "The Bold and the Beautiful" in the outstanding writing team category. Reflecting on the rare dual achievement, Tom expressed her surprise in an interview, stating, "It's kind of crazy. I love the night. [Daytime is] a very small community, and I've known most of these people for literally most of my life. It's always nice to be recognized and to go and hang, and two in one night seems insane!"
Throughout her extensive career spanning over three decades, Tom has earned 20 Daytime Emmy nominations and six victories. She is notably the only performer to win Daytime Emmys across three distinct classifications: younger actress, supporting actress, and lead actress. Her previous wins include trophies in 1993 and 1999 for her work on "The Young and the Restless," followed by a supporting actress win in 2011 and lead actress victories in 2012, 2013, and 2020 with "The Bold and the Beautiful."
Despite being on the verge of surpassing Slezak's acting milestone, Tom emphasized her deep admiration for the television icon. "I don't think I could be in a rivalry with Erica Slezak because she's just iconic," Tom noted, explaining that she feels honored simply to be mentioned alongside someone she grew up watching and working with.
Tom's writing nomination stems from her contributions to a special Women's History Month episode of the soap opera, an opportunity provided by executive producer and head writer Brad Bell. Discussing her supportive working relationship with Bell, Tom stated, "He's always been extremely supportive of what I've wanted to do and branching out. I've been doing daytime now for, gosh, almost 37 years. Along the way I kind of wanted to start trying other things." She added that if she wins on Friday, Bell and her husband will be the first people she thanks.
As she prepares for the ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium, Tom will be accompanied by her husband, James, and her son, Zane, who is attending the Daytime Emmys for the very first time. While major daytime dramas continue to pull in substantial recognition—with "The Young and the Restless" leading nominations and Genie Francis receiving the lifetime achievement award—Tom's milestone evening highlights a momentous chapter for both the long-running soap opera and her own multifaceted career.
