Hansi Flick Targets Top Eight Finish for FC Barcelona in Champions League

FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has set a clear objective for his squad as they prepare to face Aston Villa in the Champions League. With the team currently navigating a demanding schedule, Flick emphasized that the immediate priority for the club is to secure a position within the top eight of the competition standings.

During a press conference held ahead of the match, Flick addressed recent questions regarding the team's performance, specifically focusing on their two losses against PSG and Real Madrid. Despite these setbacks, the German coach highlighted the team's resilience, noting that they have successfully secured 11 consecutive victories in other matches this season. He remains steadfast in his belief that the squad possesses the necessary quality to compete for both the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy.

Flick offered high praise for their upcoming opponents, describing Aston Villa as a fantastic team currently in excellent form. He specifically commended Villa manager Unai Emery, labeling him one of the top coaches in both Europe and the world. Flick noted that Emery’s side displays a clear structural discipline in both defensive and offensive phases, making them a dangerous adversary for any opponent.

Regarding his own squad, Flick acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by injuries, particularly within his defensive line. He admitted that the current situation is not normal, but expressed optimism that several players will be available for selection following the upcoming international break. He specifically mentioned that defender Andreas Christensen has begun training as a neutral player, with the coaching staff monitoring his progress ahead of the weekend.

The manager also took time to discuss the development of younger players within the organization. Flick expressed his continued faith in Alejandro Balde, noting that he is working to help the defender regain his confidence. He described Balde as a fantastic player who understands the club's identity, having progressed through the La Masia academy system.

As the team prepares for the high-stakes match against Aston Villa, Flick underscored the importance of maintaining focus. He reiterated that the goal of finishing in the top eight remains the primary target for the club. With a blend of experienced leadership and young talent, Barcelona aims to continue their push for European success despite the current roster limitations.
