Former West Point Cadet Pleads Guilty to Drugging Girlfriend to Force Miscarriage
Caleb Suh admitted to secretly administering abortion pills to his pregnant partner in March 2022 before later studying at Cornell and Columbia universities.
A former West Point cadet pleaded guilty in a Manhattan federal court to federal assault charges after admitting he secretly drugged his pregnant girlfriend to cause an unwanted miscarriage. The case, which recently came to public light through a civil lawsuit filed in New York, details how Caleb Suh targeted the 19-year-old service academy classmate in March 2022.
According to court records and the lawsuit, Suh wanted an abortion while his girlfriend wanted to carry the pregnancy to term. Suh admitted to impersonating the victim to open an online pharmacy account, acquiring abortion medications, and obtaining Xanax from a friend to use as a sedative. He then duped the victim into drinking a prenatal protein shake laced with the drugs.
After administering the abortion pills orally and vaginally while she slept, Suh left the victim incapacitated and bleeding alone in her barracks room. When the victim woke up and attempted to contact him, he ignored her messages. She ultimately called 911 and was hospitalized, while investigators later found Suh searching online pharmacy sites to see if doctors could detect the pills.
Russell Kornblith, the attorney representing the victim, stated that his client has suffered a life-changing event that she will deal with for the rest of her life. The lawsuit, filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe, seeks unspecified damages and aims to ensure that such an incident never happens to anyone else.
In the wake of the March 2022 assault, the victim reported Suh to the Army Criminal Investigation Division at West Point in May 2022. While military academy officials have not detailed the findings or outcome of their probe, Suh later transferred to Cornell University for the 2023-2024 school year, where he graduated earlier this year.
Cornell officials stated that Suh answered negatively when asked on his transfer application if he had ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at a previous institution, noting that West Point had reported him to be in good academic standing. Suh subsequently began a master's program at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in September.
Suh's federal sentencing, originally scheduled earlier, was postponed to January at the request of his defense attorney to allow him to complete his current academic semester. Prosecutors did not oppose the delay, and Suh is currently awaiting sentencing following his guilty plea in June.
