Former German professional handball star Stefan Kretzschmar has partially relocated to Spain, purchasing a property on the island of Mallorca. The 53-year-old sports personality, renowned for his illustrious career and contributions to German handball, shared that he and his partner, Dorle, fulfilled a long-held personal dream by acquiring a home in the northern region of the island near the Golf Canyamel course.

Speaking about his transition, Kretzschmar explained his new lifestyle model to the press. "We have fulfilled a dream," he stated. "My current plan is two weeks here in Spain, two weeks in Germany." When residing in Germany, the couple lives north of Berlin near a lake.

Kretzschmar emphasized that his partial emigration will not disrupt his professional commitments. He intends to maintain his prominent presence in the sport as a leading voice and media expert. "We live in a digital world, where working from anywhere is remarkably possible," he noted.

Beyond his lifestyle changes, the former left winger reflects openly on his past as he looks toward the future. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Kretzschmar admitted that some of his earlier media statements and interviews leave him feeling "somewhat embarrassed." During his active playing career, he earned the moniker "Handball Punk" due to his distinctive tattoos, eccentric hairstyles, and outspoken personality.

Reflecting on the evolution of sports culture and media, Kretzschmar pointed out how permanent digital footprints have changed human behavior. He contrasted the past, when provocative remarks faded quickly after a week, with the modern social media era where statements remain online forever. He also addressed the current landscape of professional sports, noting that mandatory media training has made younger players far more conformist compared to previous generations.

Kretzschmar's lasting influence on handball spans decades of achievements, including winning the EHF Champions League with SC Magdeburg and earning an Olympic silver medal with the German national team in 2004. He was inducted into the European Handball Federation Hall of Fame in 2023 and continues his media work as a commentator for the streaming service Dyn, alongside upcoming book releases such as his new publication titled "Harzblut – das Handball-Manifest".
