Film 'Wicker' Takes Top Spot at U.K. Box Office
The comedy narrowly outperformed the psychological thriller 'Primetime' during its opening weekend.
The period comedy "Wicker" has secured the top position at the U.K. and Ireland box office during its debut weekend. Directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, the film earned £1.76 million, according to industry reports. The production features a notable ensemble cast, including Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård, Peter Dinklage, and Elizabeth Debicki.
The film achieved its number one ranking by a narrow margin, narrowly edging out the A24 psychological thriller "Primetime." Directed by Lance Oppenheim and starring Robert Pattinson, Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers, "Primetime" finished in second place with a total of £1.75 million. The difference between the two top-performing films was approximately £10,141.
Skyler Gisondo, who portrays the character Dan in "Primetime," recently discussed the challenges of the role, noting that it was the most demanding project of his career. The actor, who also appears as Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming "Superman" film, received a Gotham Award nomination for his supporting performance in the thriller shortly after the film's release.
Other films rounding out the top of the charts included the horror-comedy "Ghosts: The Possession of Button House" in third place and the DC horror thriller "Clayface" in fourth. Both films maintained strong audience interest in their second weeks of release, with "Clayface" generating $1.6 million during the frame.
The box office landscape is expected to shift in the coming weeks as several new titles prepare for release. Upcoming arrivals include the biographical drama "I Play Rocky," the concert film "George Michael: The Faith Tour," and the mythological adventure "Ramayana: Rise of a Legend." Additionally, specialized titles such as "Misty Green" and the documentary "One In A Million" are scheduled to debut.
In the United States, the term "primetime" has also been a subject of recent discussion within the sports broadcasting industry. Television personality Chris "Mad Dog" Russo expressed criticism regarding the upcoming schedule of NFL primetime games, suggesting that many of the matchups appear uncompetitive. His comments have sparked debate among viewers about the quality of televised professional football games scheduled for evening slots.
Meanwhile, the Golf Channel has announced plans to air official films covering the 2026 Masters Tournament and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. These programs are scheduled for a primetime broadcast on November 24, providing viewers with an opportunity to review highlights from the events, including Rory McIlroy’s second consecutive victory at Augusta National.
