Following their recent La Liga encounter, both FC Barcelona and Real Betis are navigating significant roster and disciplinary complications as they look ahead to their upcoming fixtures in the Spanish competition.

Barcelona defender Jules Kounde is facing a difficult battle to recover in time for Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid. The 27-year-old French player suffered a severe sprain to his left ankle during the match against Real Betis. Although he managed to complete the game, medical examinations confirmed the extent of the injury, subsequently ruling him out of Barcelona's UEFA Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain.

Manager Hansi Flick initially kept open the possibility of utilizing the defender over the weekend, but the mood within the coaching staff has grown increasingly pessimistic. The affected area remains extremely painful and swollen, making a full recovery by Sunday highly improbable. While using painkillers via injection remains an option, medical and coaching staff must weigh the risk of aggravating the ligament strain.

In the absence of Kounde and other sidelined defenders like Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen, Flick may need to rely on alternative options. Youngster Xavi Espart delivered an impressive performance against PSG, potentially earning consideration for a start at right-back, whereas deploying Frenkie de Jong in central defense appears less likely.

Meanwhile, Real Betis is dealing with heavy fallout from the same match after the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation released its rulings for the ninth matchday of La Liga. The club faces severe suspensions, most notably a four-match ban handed to midfielder Facundo Bernal following his red card in the 54th minute.

According to the referee's match report, Bernal grabbed an opponent by the neck and delivered two consecutive headbutts during a stoppage in play. Real Betis submitted formal arguments attempting to reclassify the incident as violent conduct rather than physical assault in hopes of reducing the penalty, but the committee ultimately dismissed the appeal after reviewing video evidence.

In addition to Bernal's suspension, Betis official Manu Fajardo received a two-match ban for conduct contrary to good sportsmanship. Head coach Manuel Pellegrini was also cautioned for protesting and making gestures toward the officiating crew during the intense encounter.

Real Betis plans to escalate the matter by filing an appeal with the Appeals Committee to mitigate the damage of Bernal's four-match absence. As both clubs prepare for their upcoming league commitments, managing these sudden physical and regulatory setbacks will prove crucial for their immediate campaign goals.
