Exor Shifts Strategy as Juventus Approves Major Capital Increase
The holding company led by John Elkann continues to pivot toward global technology and luxury investments while supporting its football club in Turin.
The investment landscape for Exor, the holding company led by John Elkann, is undergoing a significant transformation. While the firm maintains its commitment to its historic assets, its financial strategy is increasingly focused on international sectors such as precision medicine and high-end luxury, moving away from its traditional industrial roots in Turin.
A clear example of this shift is Exor's growing stake in the Dutch company Philips. Having entered the healthcare technology market in 2023, the holding company has increased its position to approximately 19 percent, with plans to reach 22 percent. This move into medical imaging and digital health software provides the firm with stable, high-margin revenue that is largely insulated from the cyclical volatility of the automotive industry.
In contrast, the automotive sector continues to face significant challenges. Stellantis has struggled with market uncertainty and declining sales, leading to production slowdowns at the Mirafiori plant in Italy. Meanwhile, the sale of Iveco Group to Tata Motors marks another step in the gradual reduction of the Agnelli family's direct industrial footprint in the region.
At the same time, the Juventus football club, a key part of the family's identity, remains in a period of financial restructuring. During a recent shareholders' meeting at the Allianz Stadium, the club approved a capital increase of up to 250 million euros. Exor, which holds a 65.4 percent stake in the team, has committed to covering its portion of the investment and any unsubscribed shares to ensure the club's stability.
The club's financial results for the 2025-26 season showed a net loss of 66 million euros, highlighting the ongoing difficulties in balancing competitive performance with fiscal sustainability. Giovanni Carnevali, who was recently confirmed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Juventus, emphasized the need for a disciplined approach. "We must work with the resources we have, following what UEFA requires," Carnevali stated during the assembly, noting that the club aims to rebuild its scouting and youth development programs to ensure long-term success.
While Ferrari continues to deliver strong financial performance, serving as a pillar of stability for the holding company, the broader picture for Exor is one of diversification. By prioritizing global technology and luxury sectors over traditional manufacturing, Elkann is steering the family's assets toward a future defined by international markets rather than local industrial production.
