Dallas Cowboys defeat Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football
Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown to help the Cowboys secure a much-needed divisional victory.
The Dallas Cowboys bounced back from a difficult stretch of the season with a decisive 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field. With both teams entering the contest searching for consistency, the Cowboys capitalized on an injury-ravaged opponent to improve their standing within the NFC East.
Dallas relied heavily on a dominant ground attack led by running back Javonte Williams. Williams turned in a standout performance, rushing for a career-high 155 yards on 25 carries and finding the end zone once, averaging 6.2 yards per carry behind an offensive line that controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the night.
Quarterback Dak Prescott engineered an efficient passing attack, completing 15 of 27 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb hauled in five catches for 74 yards and two scores, while George Pickens added another touchdown reception to solidify the offensive outburst.
The Eagles, playing without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, briefly seized momentum in the first half and claimed a 21-20 lead in the third quarter when rookie Makai Lemon scored his first career NFL touchdown. However, Philadelphia's offense stalled as running back Saquon Barkley exited the game early due to injury, leaving backup quarterback Tanner McKee and the depleted roster unable to keep pace.
Philadelphia's defense struggled mightily to contain the Dallas rushing attack, surrendering 204 total yards on the ground. Second-year linebacker Jihaad Campbell admitted that the defensive unit failed to meet expectations. "Not up to the standard," Campbell said after the game. "We just got to be better in our run fits. Get off the block, strike blocks, get off of them, make the tackle, simple as that."
The loss drops the Eagles to a 2-5 record, mounting the pressure on head coach Nick Sirianni and his squad as they face mounting injury concerns and defensive lapses. Meanwhile, the Cowboys improved their record and regained offensive rhythm after dropping consecutive games in Weeks 5 and 6.
