Cruz Azul Defeats Querétaro in Liga MX Apertura 2026 Match

Cruz Azul claimed a commanding lead over Querétaro during the opening half of their Liga MX Apertura 2026 fixture at Estadio Corregidora. Entering the Week 14 encounter, both clubs held 20 points in the standings, needing a strong finish in the regular-season home stretch to secure their postseason positioning.

The visitors arrived in third place with 23 points after earlier reports noted differing statistics from various sources, reflecting an offense riding a strong scoring streak following recent victories against FC Juárez and Pachuca. Meanwhile, the host Gallos Blancos sat in the eighth position, looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats against Santos Laguna and Atlético de San Luis.

The match began with early drama as Cruz Azul took the lead through a penalty kick converted by Andrés Montaño after a video assistant referee review confirmed a handball. Querétaro responded quickly when Mateo Coronel struck a first-time shot into the upper portion of the net to equalize.

Despite the temporary setback, La Máquina reclaimed control before halftime. Nicolás Ibáñez netted a curling shot past goalkeeper Guillermo Allison to restore the visiting advantage, and Christian Ebere added a third goal shortly before the interval following another review by the officiating crew.

The historical context between the two sides favored Cruz Azul prior to kickoff, holding a strong record in recent years and an undefeated streak in their previous visits to Querétaro's home stadium. As the second half commenced, the hosts faced an uphill battle to narrow the deficit against an aggressive visiting squad.

Broadcasting arrangements for the fixture included regional coverage across Mexico and the United States via multiple platforms, providing international fans access to follow the late-stage regular-season battle as both teams fight for direct qualification to the Liguilla.
