Country Music Stars Honor Dolly Parton at Nashville Tribute Concert
Artists gathered at Belmont University to celebrate the life and legacy of the late music icon.
The country music community came together on October 21 at Belmont University in Nashville for a star-studded tribute concert honoring the life and career of Dolly Parton. The event, titled "CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton," featured performances and heartfelt reflections from numerous artists who paid homage to the singer's enduring influence on music and her extensive philanthropic efforts.
Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Her estate confirmed that she died at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, surrounded by loved ones. Despite facing health challenges in the year leading up to her death, Parton remained committed to her work and legacy until her final days.
During the tribute, Reba McEntire delivered a standout performance of the gospel song "He's Alive," a track Parton famously performed at the 1990 GMA Dove Awards. McEntire, who shared a decades-long friendship with Parton, reflected on their first meeting in 1977 at the Grand Ole Opry, describing the icon as a "force of nature" whose kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
The evening featured a diverse lineup of performers, including Carrie Underwood, who sang a powerful rendition of "I Will Always Love You," and Ella Langley, who performed "Jolene." Other artists, such as Brad Paisley, Lainey Wilson, and Vince Gill, contributed to the celebration, which included archival footage of Parton's career highlights and her collaborations with various musicians throughout the decades.
Beyond the musical performances, the event served as a platform to highlight Parton's commitment to humanitarian causes. The Country Music Association, in partnership with Belmont University, The Walt Disney Company, and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, announced a combined $1 million donation to Parton's Imagination Library, a program that has provided millions of books to children worldwide.
The celebration underscored Parton's role not only as a global music ambassador but also as a source of inspiration for those who felt like outsiders. Speakers throughout the night emphasized her ability to bring people together and her unwavering authenticity. As the event concluded, the collective performances served as a final, poignant salute to a woman whose influence extended far beyond the stage.
