Commanders Overcome Early Deficit to Defeat Struggling Eagles 27-10
Washington reeled off 27 unanswered points on Sunday Night Football, plunging Philadelphia into its sixth consecutive loss.
The Washington Commanders secured a 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles during Sunday Night Football, extending their division rival's losing streak to six games. Playing at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, Washington rebounded from a slow start to dominate the final three quarters.
Philadelphia initially seized control of the contest in the opening period. After a field goal from Jake Elliott, the Eagles capitalized on a fumble forced by Andrew Mukuba and recovered by Zack Baun. Running back Saquon Barkley subsequently extended the lead to 10-0 with a 24-yard reception followed by a three-yard touchdown rush on a direct snap.
Washington began its comeback late in the first quarter when Drew Stevens converted a 56-yard field goal. Quarterback Jayden Daniels then engineered an 89-yard scoring drive, capped by an eight-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs. Another field goal by Stevens gave the Commanders a 13-10 advantage heading into halftime.
The defensive front for Washington completely dismantled the Philadelphia offense as the game progressed, registering a season-high five sacks and generating pressure on 46.5% of passing plays. In the third quarter, Dorance Armstrong stripped the ball from Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee, allowing Charles Omenihu to recover the fumble and stall another Philadelphia possession.
The Commanders capitalized on explosive plays to pull away in the second half. A 53-yard reception by Treylon Burks set up another field goal, while rookie Antonio Williams added a 30-yard catch to fuel another scoring march. Rachaad White later sealed the outcome with a 33-yard run that preceded a one-yard touchdown plunge with 1:52 remaining in regulation.
McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards with one interception for Philadelphia, which played without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver DeVonta Smith due to injuries. Barkley was limited to 30 yards on 13 carries while playing through hamstring and back issues.
With the win, the Commanders improved their record to 2-4-1 and climbed out of the NFC East basement. Meanwhile, the struggling Eagles fell to 2-6, dropping to last place in the division ahead of a home matchup against the New York Giants.
