Canelo Alvarez to Challenge Christian Mbilli for WBC Super Middleweight Title
The blockbuster boxing event titled "Mexico vs. the World" is scheduled to take place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Boxing superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is set to make his return to the ring to challenge undefeated champion Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title. The high-stakes showdown serves as the main event of a major fight card dubbed "Mexico vs. the World," taking place on Saturday, October 31, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The event marks Alvarez's first appearance since his unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025. That defeat snapped a six-fight win streak for the 36-year-old former two-time undisputed super middleweight champion, whose only other recent setback came against Dmitry Bivol in 2022. Eager to prove his critics wrong, Alvarez expressed determination ahead of the bout, stating that his motivation remains rooted in a deep love for the sport and a desire to continue breaking records.
"Oh, I learn things I don't need to do. So, you learn from everything. So I learn my lesson, and I just always keep learning," Alvarez said to DAZN via Sports Illustrated, adding, "My motivation is the love for the sport, and, like I say, I always break records when I need to show anybody anything. And you know, they say I'm old and this and that, but they're going to see."
Christian Mbilli enters the ring with an undefeated 29-0-1 record featuring 24 knockout wins. The 31-year-old fighter captured the WBC interim super middleweight title by defeating Maciej Sulecki in June 2025 and successfully defended it against Lester Martinez. Following Crawford relinquishing the belt, Mbilli was elevated to full WBC champion in January 2026, setting the stage for what is widely considered the toughest test of his professional career.
The main card is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET, with the main event ring walks for Alvarez and Mbilli estimated to take place around 4:30 p.m. ET, depending on the duration of the undercard bouts. Global audiences can watch the event live exclusively through a DAZN pay-per-view broadcast.
The stacked undercard features several notable matchups, including Jaime Munguia facing Nikita Zon for the WBA super middleweight title, and Rafael Espinoza defending his WBO featherweight championship against Ricardo Blandon. Additional bouts on the card feature fighters such as David Picasso, Carl Jammes Martin, Reito Tsutsumi, and Bek Nurmaganbet.
