Browns Rookie KC Concepcion Returns From Injury to Score Touchdown
Cleveland rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion overcame an injury scare against the New Orleans Saints to help his team late in the game.
Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion briefly left the field due to a leg injury during Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Saints before making a dramatic return. The game, featuring Shedeur Sanders starting at quarterback for Cleveland in place of Deshaun Watson, was tied late in the third quarter when the incident occurred.
During a play that concluded with Sanders being sacked, Concepcion tried to get open before beginning to limp and going down on the turf. Trainers quickly rushed to assist the rookie off the field, with television replays showing him putting very little weight on his right leg as he headed toward the sideline.
Because the incident appeared to be a non-contact injury, immediate concerns arose regarding a potential major issue, with analysts noting that a hamstring problem was also a possibility. According to reports from Louisianasports.net and The Cleveland Plain Dealer, trainers had to support the wide receiver as he struggled to put pressure on the limb.
Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported on social media that the rookie hobbled to the medical tent following the play. Zac Jackson of The Athletic noted that when Concepcion emerged from the medical tent with his helmet, he was still noticeably limping.
Despite the scare, Concepcion managed to return to action shortly after being evaluated. He was even back on the field to field a punt after the Saints were forced to punt the ball away.
Before exiting the contest, Concepcion had recorded three receptions for 21 yards, having caught both of his initial targets for 11 yards earlier in the game. He quickly made his presence felt again upon returning to the offense.
Sanders found the rookie wide receiver for a dramatic 64-yard touchdown late in the game, providing a crucial spark for a Cleveland offense that had struggled to establish consistency against New Orleans. The big play put the Browns in the lead late in the fourth quarter.
The matchup also featured updates on other roster injuries for Cleveland, including Denzel Boston, who participated fully in Friday's practice with a calf issue and held no injury designation heading into Sunday. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson remained listed as questionable with a concussion, prompting the decision for Sanders to start under center.
