AFC Bournemouth continued their impressive run in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League by securing a commanding lead against Italian powerhouse AC Milan during their match at Vitality Stadium. The English club, which qualified for a European competition for the first time in its history last season, started the current tournament strongly with victories over Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz.

The hosts quickly put pressure on Milan, catching the Italian side off guard within the opening ten minutes of the game. Following a VAR review that penalized defender Koni De Winter for a handball inside the penalty area, Justin Kluivert stepped up to take the shot.

Kluivert calmly converted the penalty kick to give Bournemouth the lead. The goal marked the Dutch player's second score of the European competition, following his previous strike during the victory against Real Sociedad the month before.

The match grew increasingly difficult for AC Milan as the first half progressed. During a Bournemouth corner kick in the 28th minute, Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan made a shocking challenge, striking Tyler Adams in the face.

The referee issued a straight red card to Maignan, leaving the Italian side with ten men. Tactical adjustments forced manager Ruben Amorim to substitute Omari Hutchinson to bring backup goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani onto the pitch.

Torriani faced an immediate challenge as Bournemouth was awarded a second penalty kick stemming from the incident. Marcus Tavernier successfully converted the spot-kick in the 32nd minute, doubling the home team's advantage and deepening Milan's troubles on the road.
