Benfica secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Alverca on Monday at Estádio da Luz, closing out the tenth round of the Portuguese I Liga. Vangelis Pavlidis scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot early in the second half, marking his tenth league goal of the season and his seventeenth across all competitions. The win extends Benfica's current winning streak to six consecutive matches in all competitions.

Despite dominating possession during stretches of the first half, Marco Silva's squad struggled to break down a resilient Alverca side. The visitors nearly stunned the home crowd twenty minutes before halftime when Yaya Bojang put the ball in the net following a free-kick sequence, but the goal was disallowed after a video review confirmed an offside position.

Manager Marco Silva turned to his bench at halftime, introducing Claudio Echeverri in place of Andreas Schjelderup. The tactical change immediately energized the attacking play. Just four minutes into the second half, Echeverri drove into the penalty area and drew a clear foul from Sergi Gómez, prompting the referee to point to the penalty spot.

Pavlidis stepped up and calmly converted the penalty in the 51st minute, sending goalkeeper Matheus Mendes the wrong way. With this strike, the Greek forward further consolidated his position at the top of the league's scoring charts, holding a two-goal advantage over his closest competitor.

Although Benfica failed to display their most fluent attacking form, the hosts created several additional opportunities to extend their lead. Echeverri and Gianluca Prestianni both tested the Alverca defense, while Alexander Bah registered a powerful shot that drew a spectacular save from Mendes. At the other end, Alverca managed moments of danger through Chiquinho and Figueiredo, but Samuel Soares and the Benfica backline preserved the clean sheet.

The result leaves Benfica firmly in second place in the standings with 25 points after nine matches, maintaining a five-point gap behind leaders FC Porto and holding a four-point advantage over Sporting. Meanwhile, Alverca suffered their second consecutive defeat and dropped to tenth place in the league table with 11 points.

Alverca entered the fixture looking to rebound following a previous loss to Arouca and a Taca de Portugal elimination against Tondela. Sérgio Ferreira's team fought diligently throughout the match but ultimately fell short against the hosts, halting a previous run of solid away form in the domestic competition.
