The Chicago Bears are bracing to be without veteran tight end Cole Kmet for a significant period after he sustained a right knee injury during Thursday night's game. Kmet had to be carted off the field in the fourth quarter, casting a shadow over the team's victory.

The injury occurred with roughly 5:40 remaining in the contest while the Bears held a 27-21 lead. Kmet caught a pass on a second-down play and scrambled toward the first-down marker before being met near the sideline by two New England defenders. One of the defenders appeared to clip his right leg during the tackle, and Kmet immediately grabbed his right knee.

Medical personnel attended to him on the turf before placing him on a cart. As he left the field, Kmet offered a reassuring thumbs-up to the crowd, but team officials quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game. Prior to the exit, he recorded three catches for 28 yards.

Quarterback Caleb Williams expressed deep concern and emotion regarding his teammate's condition following the game. Williams highlighted Kmet's importance to both the locker room and the broader franchise, noting the tight end's status as the longest-tenured player currently on the roster.

“It was tough,” Williams said. “I don’t know exactly what it is and all of that, but obviously being carted off is never good. You’re at least going to miss some time. I don’t have the words to describe what Cole is to me, what Cole is to this team, this organization.”

Williams emphasized his commitment to supporting Kmet through the recovery process, drawing on the tight end's consistent guidance since Williams entered the league. Teammate Colston Loveland echoed those sentiments, stating that the squad will deeply miss Kmet's presence on the field.

“Love that guy,” Loveland said. “We’re going to miss him, for sure. I’m praying for him.”

Kmet, 27, has transitioned into a complementary role this season following the drafting of Colston Loveland in the first round last year. Despite the shift, Kmet had logged over 62 percent of the team's offensive snaps, catching 10 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown prior to Thursday night.
