FC Bayern Munich secured a 3-1 victory against SC Freiburg on Sunday, maintaining their position at the top of the Bundesliga standings after the seventh matchday. The match at the Europa-Park Stadion took place under emotional circumstances following the recent medical collapse of Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany.

Aaron Danks stepped in as the primary manager for the reigning champions, guiding the team through a challenging fixture played in front of 34,700 spectators. Despite a lively start from Julian Schuster's Freiburg side, who created early pressure and tested the defense, Bayern capitalized on a swift counterattack in the 16th minute.

Defender Dayot Upamecano blocked an effort from Niklas Beste at the edge of the penalty area before sprinting the length of the pitch. Upamecano collected a through ball from Michael Olise and calmly slotted past Freiburg goalkeeper Mio Backhaus to open the scoring for the visitors.

Freiburg continued to probe for an equalizer, with Lucas Höler having a shot blocked by Upamecano, but Bayern's clinical finishing struck again shortly before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Nathaniel Brown fed Serge Gnabry on the left side of the box, and the German international finished sharply from a tight angle to double the lead.

The hosts pushed hard after the interval, testing Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig with a free kick from Derry Scherhant early in the second half. Freiburg eventually broke through in the 82nd minute when substitute Jordy Makengo drove the ball across the face of goal, resulting in an own goal by Bayern midfielder Tom Bischof.

The late goal set up a tense finish as Freiburg pressed for a dramatic equalizer, with Urbig forced to make a brilliant save to deny Matthias Ginter's header in the 91st minute. However, any hopes of a comeback were extinguished deep into stoppage time.

In the 95th minute, Michael Olise caught Backhaus far outside the penalty area, dispossessing the goalkeeper before rolling the ball into an unguarded net from distance. The insurance goal sealed all three points, allowing Bayern to maintain their spot at the summit of the league table ahead of next weekend's clash against Borussia Dortmund.
