South Africa’s national football team, Bafana Bafana, is gearing up for a pivotal pair of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Kenya this November. Head coach Pitso Mosimane has officially trimmed his preliminary roster, naming a final 30-man squad tasked with maintaining the team's momentum in the qualification campaign.

The two-legged encounter is set to begin on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto, where South Africa will enjoy home-field advantage. Following the opening match, the squad will travel to Nairobi for the return fixture against the Harambee Stars, managed by former South African international Benni McCarthy, on Tuesday, November 17.

Mosimane’s selection features a mix of established international veterans and rising talents. Notably, the squad sees the return of defenders Mbekezeli Mbokazi and midfielder Thalente Mbatha. Both players were key contributors during South Africa's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign but had been sidelined recently due to injuries. Their return is expected to bolster the team's defensive and midfield depth.

Despite recent fitness concerns, captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and star midfielder Teboho Mokoena have both been included in the final group. Their presence provides essential leadership and experience as the team looks to build upon its current standing at the top of Group D. Bafana Bafana currently holds six points following consecutive victories in September, including a 2-1 win over Guinea and a dominant 5-0 performance against Eritrea.

The squad announcement comes during a busy period for South African football, as several players are also receiving individual recognition from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Teboho Mokoena and Ronwen Williams have been shortlisted for the 2026 CAF Men’s Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year awards, respectively. These nominations reflect a successful year for the national program, which saw South Africa perform strongly on the international stage, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As the team prepares for the upcoming qualifiers, the coaching staff is focused on tactical adjustments to secure the necessary points to guarantee a spot in the 2027 AFCON finals. With the return of key personnel and a strong record in recent international outings, the upcoming matches against Kenya are viewed as a critical opportunity for the team to solidify its position in the group standings.
