Arles Mayor Patrick de Carolis Returns Home After Pulmonary Embolism
The 72-year-old mayor was discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home before resuming his official duties.
Patrick de Carolis, the mayor of Arles, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday, November 1, following an emergency hospitalization for a pulmonary embolism.
The 72-year-old official shared that the latest updates regarding his health are reassuring, and he will spend the upcoming days resting at his residence to complete his convalescence.
De Carolis experienced severe shortness of breath on October 22 while assisting firefighters during severe weather conditions that impacted the municipality. Following medical advice from emergency responders, he sought urgent medical attention.
His health condition required immediate hospitalization, which caused him to miss a scheduled visit to Arles by the Minister for Ecological Transition, Mathieu Lefèvre, on October 23.
Since his admission, First Deputy Mayor Mandy Graillon has been managing municipal affairs for the city of approximately 52,000 residents. Graillon is expected to continue serving in this interim capacity for a few more days.
De Carolis has served as the mayor of Arles since 2020 and previously worked as the president of France Télévisions. He plans to return to his mayoral duties once his health permits.
