American Senior Sets World Record With 1,207 Cinema Visits in One Year
Glenwood Hoskin Jr. shattered the previous moviegoing record by attending an average of 3.3 screenings per day over twelve months.
A 60-year-old American retiree has established a new Guinness World Record by attending 1,207 movie theater screenings over the course of twelve months, averaging roughly 3.3 films per day without taking days off for weekends or holidays. Glenwood Hoskin Jr. spent nearly two thousand hours in the dark between April 2024 and March 2025, using his local theater in York Haven, Pennsylvania, as his primary routine.
Before retiring, Hoskin worked for the Internal Revenue Service, a background that helped him plan his daily schedule with strict precision. His moviegoing marathon involved meticulous timing, starting with morning screenings and concluding around midnight. By utilizing a monthly cinema subscription costing approximately $28, his total yearly ticket expenditure amounted to roughly $336, breaking down to less than 30 cents per film.
Hoskin easily surpassed the previous world record of 777 movie theater visits, outpacing the former milestone by 430 screenings. Rather than repeatedly watching a single feature, he chose to view the diverse programming offered by the theater. Among the 1,207 films he watched, Hoskin highlighted the animated feature The Wild Robot and Deadpool & Wolverine as standout favorites, reporting that he did not experience a single total failure throughout the entire year.
Beyond his passion for cinema, Hoskin valued the structured routine and the social connections he built with the theater staff and regular patrons over the months. Spending an estimated 2,000 hours watching films gave him a sense of purpose and a daily goal. Showing no signs of fatigue, the retired tax official remains enthusiastic about continuing his frequent visits to the big screen.
In unrelated financial news affecting retirees in other regions, older homeowners planning property renovations face potential legislative changes regarding home repair tax incentives. Proposed adjustments to the artisan bonus system could reduce maximum tax deductions for labor costs from 20 percent down to 15 percent starting in 2027. Experts note that the exact timing of invoice payments will determine whether taxpayers can secure the higher deduction before the rules shift.
