Club America and Deportivo Toluca played to an entertaining 2-2 draw on Saturday night at Estadio Banorte during the 15th round of the Apertura 2026 Liga MX tournament. The match featured late drama, two red cards, and a pair of successful penalty conversions that kept both teams near the top of the standings.

The fixture nearly saw a lineup change just before kickoff when America's Brian Rodriguez experienced a physical setback during the warm-up, forcing the coaching staff to replace him with Oscar Perea in the starting eleven. Despite the late adjustment, the opening fifteen minutes saw both sides neutralizing each other's offensive threats without recording a single shot on target.

Toluca broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Federico Vinas capitalized on a long pass, beating defender Santiago Ramos before firing a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Luis Angel Malagon. The visitors carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

America responded early in the second half. In the 61st minute, Henry Martin took advantage of a defensive error following a scramble in the penalty area to fire a powerful shot into the net, tying the score at 1-1 and revitalizing the home crowd.

The contest escalated in intensity during the final ten minutes. Referee Luis Enrique Santander awarded a penalty to Toluca after Santiago Bueno committed a foul against Paulinho inside the box. Alexis Vega took the kick in the 87th minute; although Malagon initially blocked the shot, Vega reacted quickly to head in the rebound, restoring Toluca's lead and earning a red card for Bueno following a VAR review.

Trailing late in the match, America pressed forward and earned a penalty of their own in the 89th minute when Miguel Borja was held down in the area, resulting in the expulsion of Toluca defender Federico Pereira. Henry Martin stepped up to the spot in the 92nd minute and confidently struck the ball past the goalkeeper to equalize once more at 2-2.

With the final whistle, America reached 29 points in the tournament standings, while Toluca moved to 24 points. The result left the home side with a valuable point salvaged in the closing moments, though it extended their winless streak at home since late August.
