Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Hat-Trick as He Nears 1,000 Career Goals
The Portuguese star netted three goals in Al-Nassr's victory, bringing his career total to 985 official goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick on Thursday to help Al-Nassr secure a 5-3 victory over Al-Kholood in the Saudi League. The Portuguese forward netted all three of his goals within a span of just fifteen minutes during the second half, bringing his team to the top of the league standings with 28 points, tied with Al-Qadsiah while holding a match in hand.
After a quiet first half in which Al-Nassr traded goals with their opponents and reached halftime tied at 2-2, Ronaldo ignited his scoring run in the sixty-sixth minute. João Félix provided the assist, delivering a pass that allowed Ronaldo to easily push the ball into the net.
Six minutes later, Félix created another scoring opportunity by driving down the right side and delivering a chipped cross that Ronaldo headed past the goalkeeper for his second goal of the match. Ronaldo completed his hat-trick in the eighty-first minute after Sadio Mané capitalized on a saved one-on-one chance and passed the ball to the Portuguese star to tap in.
With this performance, Ronaldo reached 985 official goals throughout his professional career, leaving him just fifteen goals away from the historic milestone of 1,000. Following the match, Ronaldo highlighted his proximity to the milestone and celebrated his team's rise to the top of the table.
The achievement follows recent recognition from fans regarding his historic performances. France Football confirmed the results of a public vote for the "Ballon d'Or of All Time," known as the BOAT, where fans selected Ronaldo's 2008 campaign with Manchester United over Lionel Messi's 2012 campaign.
Organizers clarified that the public consultation does not constitute an official award or add a sixth Ballon d'Oro to Ronaldo's tally, nor is it equivalent to the Super Ballon d'Or awarded to Alfredo Di Stéfano in 1989. Responding to the fan vote on social media, Ronaldo expressed his gratitude, stating, "Football belongs to the fans! Thank you to all the fans around the world, the all-time Ballon d'Or is yours too."
The voting process required participants to pay one euro per vote to enter a draw for ceremony tickets, generating notable participation numbers. Despite the unofficial nature of the fan poll, Ronaldo's focus remains on his club commitments and his pursuit of the 1,000-goal threshold.
