A 68-year-old resident of Campo Limpo Paulista fell victim to a financial scam after receiving a message on WhatsApp from a profile posing as a bank employee. The incident took place on a Thursday morning in the São José housing complex.

The fraudulent message contained a link and a form instructing the victim to update her banking data for a major financial institution. According to local authorities, the woman did not open the form or click on the file sent by the scammers.

Despite avoiding the digital form, the victim received a notification shortly afterward regarding an unauthorized PIX transfer of 10,000 reals from her account. PIX is an instant payment system widely utilized in the country.

Following the unauthorized transaction, the victim reported the crime to the Civil Police. She provided investigators with copies of the chat conversation and her bank statement as evidence.

The case was formally registered at the Campo Limpo Paulista police station, which is overseen by Delegate Rafaela Aparecida Acedo. Authorities continue to investigate the origins of the fraudulent profile.

Cybersecurity experts frequently warn users about unsolicited messages on messaging platforms requesting personal details, account verifications, or updates. Law enforcement agencies advise citizens never to click on unverified links or share sensitive financial information via chat applications.
