Weather systems and major athletic competitions are shaping weekend plans across different regions, with meteorological agencies issuing specific advisories and forecasts for residents and travelers alike.

In the Dominican Republic, the Instituto Dominicano de Meteorologia (Indomet) reported that an interacting wind pattern and a tropospheric trough will bring unsettled weather. Sunday's forecast anticipates a high probability of rainfall, reaching up to 93 percent in areas such as Greater Santo Domingo, where weather alerts have been activated.

The weather outlook for Santo Domingo includes moderate to heavy downpours, potential thunderstorms, and wind gusts. Temperatures in the capital are expected to peak at 32 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius and high humidity levels around 87 percent, which could elevate the heat index.

Maritime conditions have also prompted advisories. Authorities recommend caution for operators of fragile, small, and medium-sized watercraft along both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts due to potential wind gusts, thunderstorms, and abnormal wave activity.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) activated a yellow fog alert for Sunday in La Mancha, affecting Albacete. The municipality anticipates morning fog, followed by clearing skies and a high temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, with minimums dropping to 8 degrees Celsius.

In the world of sports, runners prepared for the 50th anniversary of the five-borough New York City Marathon. Featuring a field of approximately 60,000 competitors from over 140 countries, the landmark event marks half a century since the race expanded outside Central Park to encompass all five boroughs.

Elite athletes gathered to tackle the notoriously challenging course, including defending men's champion Benson Kipruto of Kenya and women's defending champion Hellen Obiri, who set a course record the previous year. Competitors and organizers highlighted the unique championship-style racing dynamics and strong community support that define the historic race.
