Weather authorities have issued widespread alerts for hazardous conditions, including dense fog and severe thunderstorms, prompting warnings for motorists and residents across various regions.

In the Charleston, South Carolina area, the National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory extending through the morning hours. Officials reported that a combination of dense fog and smoke from nearby prescribed burns in the Francis Marion National Forest could create hazardous driving conditions during the morning commute.

Forecasters noted that visibility could drop to a quarter of a mile or less in areas affected by dense fog. Furthermore, the mixture of fog and smoke could produce pockets of super fog, potentially reducing visibility near zero in parts of the Charleston metropolitan area.

Drivers navigating the morning commute were advised by forecasters to reduce their speed, turn on their headlights, and maintain a safe following distance. Similar morning fog and weather conditions were reported internationally, with meteorological services noting fog patches along coastal and interior regions in parts of South Africa.

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms anticipated in the northern interior of the Eastern Cape. These severe storms carry the potential for localized damage to settlements and property, alongside disruptions to power and communication networks.

The weather service utilizes a color-coded warning system where yellow designates a moderate risk requiring caution and public awareness. Additionally, ongoing heat wave conditions with persistently high temperatures were forecasted for specific municipalities within the Eastern Cape.

As regions contend with these contrasting meteorological challenges ranging from low-visibility fog and smoke to severe thundershowers and high temperatures, residents are urged to stay informed through local weather updates and exercise necessary precautions.
