Tonbo Imaging Shares Surge 66 Percent in Strong Market Debut
The defense electronics maker listed significantly above its issue price despite broader market declines.
Shares of Tonbo Imaging India, a prominent defense electronics manufacturer, made a stellar market debut on Friday, opening with a premium of roughly 66 percent over their issue price. The strong initial public offering (IPO) performance unfolded even as the broader Indian equity markets traded in negative territory.
On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the stock debuted at 1,162 rupees per share, marking a 66 percent increase from the set issue price of 700 rupees. Similarly, on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), shares opened at 1,160 rupees apiece, registering a 65.71 percent jump over the issue price.
Following the strong opening, the stock experienced some mild downward pressure during the trading session. On the BSE, it traded around 1,059.05 rupees, which was down 8.86 percent from its listing price, yet still maintained a solid premium of 51.28 percent over the initial issue price. On the NSE, the shares moved to 1,058.30 rupees, holding a 51.18 percent gain over the original price point.
With these valuations, the Bengaluru-based company's market capitalization reached approximately 6,191.91 crore rupees on the BSE and 6,060.45 crore rupees on the NSE. The positive debut provided a bright spot on a challenging trading day that saw benchmark indices face heavy selling pressure.
The broader market downturn saw the BSE Sensex fall 409.06 points, or 0.56 percent, to close at 72,840.33, while the NSE Nifty dropped 173.65 points, or 0.77 percent, to 22,514. Amid this cautious market environment, Tonbo Imaging's public issue had previously drawn immense investor interest, getting subscribed nearly 136 times by the final day of bidding.
The 852.18-crore-rupee IPO consisted entirely of an offer-for-sale (OFS) of 1.22 crore equity shares by promoters and existing shareholders, meaning the company itself will not receive any direct proceeds from the offering. The price band for the public offering had been fixed between 665 and 700 rupees per share.
Tonbo Imaging specializes in designing and manufacturing advanced sensing, processing, communication, and guidance systems utilized in surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting applications. Its extensive product catalog includes thermal imaging cores, weapon sights, missile seekers, fire control systems, and missile guidance solutions.
As of June 30, 2026, the company has successfully deployed more than 28,000 tactical systems and serves clients across 24 countries. Industry reports position Tonbo Imaging alongside major global competitors in the electro-optical, infrared, and thermal imaging defense electronics sectors, including companies based in the United States, Germany, and Israel.
