Tarek El Moussa Defends Gifting Daughter a Luxury SUV
The celebrity real estate investor explained that his 16-year-old daughter earned the vehicle through stellar academic and athletic achievements.
Television personality and real estate investor Tarek El Moussa recently defended his decision to purchase a $150,000 luxury vehicle for his 16-year-old daughter, Taylor. The high-end SUV sparked public debate regarding whether such an expensive gift is appropriate for a newly licensed driver.
During an appearance on Nicole Lapin's Money Rehab podcast, El Moussa clarified that the gift was a collaborative effort coordinated with his wife, Heather El Moussa, and his ex-wife, Christina Haack. The parents bought the vehicle to celebrate Taylor reaching major academic and athletic milestones.
According to El Moussa, his daughter maintained a 4.2 GPA and earned MVP honors on her freshman soccer team. He emphasized that the teenager did not demand a flashy car and would have been happy driving a standard used vehicle, making the surprise well-deserved.
Safety was another primary factor in choosing the BMW X5. El Moussa noted that the heavy-duty model was selected because it is built to protect first-time drivers on the road. "That thing is built like a tank. The biggest thing for me was safety. She's in a safe car and she loves it," he stated.
Addressing critics who argue that lavish gifts create entitlement, El Moussa explained that his daughter has grown up surrounded by privilege and processes material possessions differently than he did during his modest upbringing. He noted that her discipline, reflected in her grades and athletic dedication, demonstrates that she is not spoiled.
Alongside luxury milestones, El Moussa stressed the importance of early financial literacy. He has been teaching Taylor practical wealth-building strategies, including stock market investments, real estate concepts, and budgeting disciplines to ensure she remains accountable despite her family's high net worth.
