The San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to five games on Monday night, defeating the Utah Jazz 119-97 at the Frost Bank Center. Playing the second contest of a three-game homestand, the Spurs controlled the pace for most of the evening and handed the visiting Jazz their fifth straight loss.

San Antonio established an early advantage by attacking the paint and limiting Utah offensively. The Spurs held the Jazz to 16 points in the opening quarter, marking a season-low first-quarter output for Utah and a season-best defensive period for San Antonio. The home team carried a 27-16 lead into the second frame after setting an aggressive tone from the opening tip.

Utah mounted a comeback in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit to a single point at 37-36 following a surge that included several successful three-pointers. San Antonio head coach Mitch Johnson called a timeout to refocus his squad, and the team responded with a 14-5 run before taking a 59-49 advantage into halftime.

The Spurs put the game out of reach in the third period by outscoring Utah 35-20. San Antonio shot 60 percent from the field during the quarter, extending their lead to 25 points heading into the final 12 minutes. Wembanyama, Harper, Castle, and De'Aaron Fox each contributed six points during the decisive frame.

"Just not getting bored on what was working," San Antonio guard Stephon Castle said after the game regarding the second-half surge. "I think we came back out in the 2nd half and brought that same kind of energy."

Dylan Harper led the Spurs with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds, spearheading a balanced offensive attack that saw seven San Antonio players score in double figures. Castle added 16 points, Keldon Johnson contributed 15 points off the bench, and Victor Wembanyama recorded 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks.

Lauri Markkanen led all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds for the injury-depleted Jazz, while rookie Darryn Peterson added 14 points. Utah played without several key contributors, including Jaren Jackson Jr., who remains sidelined with an MCL injury.

With the victory, San Antonio improved its record during the homestand and prepares to host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Jazz will travel to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday as they look to snap their five-game skid.
