Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has strongly defended his player selection decisions as his team prepares for a crucial La Liga showdown against league leaders Barcelona at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Amid outside criticism regarding recent playing time for midfielder Lee Kang-in and teammate Jonathan David, Simeone firmly dismissed the concerns ahead of the upcoming match.

When asked about the minutes given to the players, Simeone questioned the premise of the criticism. He stated, "How little are they playing? What, exactly, is the ideal amount of playing time in minutes? I think players are playing as much as they can have a positive impact on the team. It is only natural to help players perform at their best in their respective positions."

Lee Kang-in transferred to Atlético Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has recorded two goals and one assist in La Liga so far this season. However, he has seen reduced starting opportunities lately, appearing as a second-half substitute during Atlético's UEFA Champions League group-stage match against Bayern Munich.

Despite recent bench appearances, tactical previews anticipate adjustments for the crucial encounter against Barcelona. Analysts project that Simeone will insert Lee and veteran Koke into the starting formation in place of Romain Le Normand and Alexander Sørloth. The tactical shift aims to spark an attack that can challenge the Catalan club.

The upcoming fixture carries massive implications for the top of the La Liga table. Barcelona currently holds first place with 30 points, closely followed by Atlético Madrid in second place with 28 points. A victory for Simeone's squad would allow them to leapfrog Barcelona and capture the league lead before the international break.

Defensively, Atlético enters the match boasting remarkable stats, having conceded only eight total goals in the league this season, with just one allowed in the first half. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick's Barcelona side arrives as the most prolific attacking team in the competition, having netted 46 goals so far.

Following the conclusion of the high-profile domestic matchup, Lee Kang-in is scheduled to join the South Korea national soccer team. Under interim manager Robert Moreno, the national squad will travel to Qatar to play friendly matches during the November international window, facing Saudi Arabia on November 13 and Qatar on November 17.
