Severe Weather Forces Major Route Changes for AIDAluna and Other Cruise Ships
Autumn storms over the North Sea and Baltic Sea have disrupted several itineraries, forcing the AIDAluna and other vessels to bypass scheduled stops in Norway.
Severe autumn weather sweeping across Northern Europe has forced cruise lines to significantly adjust their itineraries, deeply impacting passengers aboard several vessels. The AIDAluna, currently operating a Norway cruise scheduled from October 24 to October 31, 2026, was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Copenhagen due to the adverse weather conditions.
The disruptions began even before the voyage officially commenced on Saturday. The ship was unable to leave its departure port of Warnemünde on time, finally heading out onto the Baltic Sea at 22:30 instead of the scheduled 17:00 departure. The crew spent much of the following sea day off the coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, presumably waiting for updated weather forecasts and confirmation regarding alternative ports.
On Monday morning, the vessel arrived in the Danish capital as its first alternative destination. According to the port's arrival list, the ship was scheduled to remain in Copenhagen until 17:00 before continuing its journey toward Norway. However, regular stops such as Kristiansand and Bergen cannot be visited as originally planned due to the ongoing weather situation.
The original itinerary for the AIDAluna included stops in Warnemünde, Kristiansand, Bergen, Vik, and Eidfjord. The revised schedule has cut several of these Norwegian destinations, leaving passengers to spend unexpected time in Denmark and altering the remainder of the voyage before its return to Warnemünde.
This week marks the seasonal conclusion for the ship in Warnemünde, as it takes its final course toward the Norwegian fjords for the year. Following this trip, the vessel is scheduled to operate a short four-day cruise featuring Copenhagen and Oslo before officially ending the cruise ship main season in Warnemünde on November 3.
Other vessels in the region have faced similar weather-related challenges. The AIDAperla and Tui Cruises' Mein Schiff Relax also experienced severe schedule alterations over the weekend as storms impacted the North Sea and German Bight. Cruise operators emphasized that safety remains the absolute priority when navigating such volatile meteorological conditions, which have threatened port accessibility and river navigation throughout the region.
