The coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh are experiencing severe weather conditions as severe cyclonic storm Murasu approaches the coast. According to the Meteorological Department, the process of landfall near Ongole began in the early hours of November 3. The storm is bringing powerful gale-force winds reaching 100 to 110 kilometers per hour, with potential gusts up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Officials stated that the landfall process would take several hours to complete. In the six hours leading up to the initial landfall, the cyclone moved at a speed of nine kilometers per hour, positioned close to Ongole, Bapatla, Kavali, Nellore, and Machilipatnam. Meteorological authorities have forecasted torrential downpours to persist across several districts, including West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam, and Nellore.

State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director and RTGS CEO Prakhar Jain urged residents to remain on high alert. Due to the severe weather threat, school closures have been announced in multiple districts. Port danger warnings have also been raised, with level ten warnings issued at Nizampatnam and Vadarevu harbors, level nine at Machilipatnam, and level eight at Krishnapatnam, while other ports maintain level three warnings.

The cyclone's impact has caused rough seas and coastal erosion in several areas. In the Prakasam district, rough waves surged twenty feet inland along the Pakala beach in the Singarayakonda mandal, while sea water entered Pallepalem in the Kothapatnam mandal, obstructing beach access with fishing boats. Similar turbulent conditions were reported at the Juvvaladinne fishing harbor in the Nellore district, and a causeway was washed away between Bobbilanka and Mirtipadu in the East Godavari district.

Local officials have stepped in to advise residents on safety precautions. Prakasam District Minister Gottipati Ravi urged the public in the Addanki constituency to stay alert, avoid standing near trees and electricity poles, and refrain from touching fallen power lines. Neighboring Telangana is also expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds.

Meanwhile, agricultural burning practices in northern India continue to impact regional air quality and atmospheric conditions. In Punjab, authorities registered 1,612 farm fire incidents by November 2, amidst pressures to clear fields for wheat cultivation following seventy-seven percent of paddy harvesting. The state government has imposed fines totaling 2.915 million rupees, collected nearly 1.9 million rupees, initiated 423 First Information Reports, and marked red entries in land revenue records for 472 properties violating stubble burning regulations, with Tarn Taran recording the highest number of incidents at 489.
