Resorts and Communities Prepare for Winter and Holiday Season Events
From ice sculpture exhibitions in Texas to festive workshops and products across the country, venues are gearing up for the winter holidays.
As the fall season transitions toward winter, destinations, businesses, and community centers throughout the United States are preparing their seasonal holiday events and offerings. From large-scale ice displays in the South to local craft workshops and themed retail items, preparations are well underway for the upcoming winter celebrations.
At a Hill Country resort near San Antonio, Texas, master artisans from Harbin, China, are carving ice sculptures to recreate scenes from a classic holiday television special. The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is preparing to launch its annual holiday attraction, which opens to the public on November 23, 2026, and will run through January 3, 2027.
The exhibition space will be maintained at a frigid 9 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing visitors to walk through hand-carved ice scenes, tunnels, and large ice slides. While the resort supplies parkas for attendees, guests are encouraged to dress warmly for the subfreezing temperatures. The experience forms part of a broader holiday program that includes ice tubing, snowball fights, gingerbread decorating, and storytelling sessions with Mrs. Claus.
Previous installations at the Texas resort included displays themed around popular winter characters such as Frosty the Snowman and the Grinch. The current installation continues the property's tradition of hosting large-scale immersive winter attractions for families and holiday travelers.
Meanwhile, local community centers are also organizing seasonal activities for residents. The Plum Community Center in Plum, Pennsylvania, has scheduled a craft workshop on November 17 where participants can create a snowman pallet design. The workshop requires advance reservations and carries a small participation fee, offering a hands-on crafting opportunity for community members.
Retailers are similarly introducing winter-themed products ahead of the holiday shopping rush. Footwear brands and local confectioners are rolling out seasonal inventories. For instance, Chicago-based Muah Cotton Candy is transitioning from its autumn spooky season offerings to holiday-themed sweet creations featuring characters like snowmen, Santa, and Rudolph.
With holiday travel plans, community events, and seasonal retail items launching simultaneously across the nation, venues are providing early opportunities for the public to engage with winter festivities well before the arrival of December.
